Introduction

Two community officials talking with students in a classroom.In November of 2005, the University of Utah hosted a discussion panel concerning students' attitudes toward civic involvement. During this panel, the Chief Justice of the Utah State Supreme Court, Christine Durham, cited a study that found that habits of civic engagement are ingrained by the age of 21. With civic involvement habits being determined at such an early age, it is important that citizens be offered ample opportunity to participate in community activities.
